Data-Source Provenance

Last updated: 2026-07-09 · Generated from the canonical source hierarchy

ALETHEIA's chemical-safety data is cited, not scraped. Every hazard classification, regulatory listing, and exposure figure is attributed to the public authority that issued it. This page lists those authorities. It answers “who our data comes from” — which is distinct from “who we engage with”; for the latter, see the engagement registry and agency directory.

184 agency references · 57 issuing organizations · 95 cited domains · 23 listing programs.

Not listed ≠ safe. If a substance is not listed by an authority below, that means the authority has not assessed or has not restricted it — not that it is known to be safe. Absence of a listing is absence of assessment, not a clearance.

How determinations reach us. Some determinations are surfaced through public-domain aggregators. For example, IARC carcinogen classifications are surfaced via the U.S. EPA CompTox Chemicals Dashboard's public-domain aggregation and cited to the underlying IARC monograph. Where a source is in the public domain (U.S. federal and state) we cite it as a provenance and trust feature; where reuse is conditioned on attribution (EU and other open-data bodies) we attribute the issuing authority.

United States — federal

Public-domain determinations from U.S. federal agencies.

United States — California

State public-record determinations (including Proposition 65).

European Union & EU bodies

EU open-data determinations, attributed to the issuing body.

Other national authorities

National chemical-safety authorities we cite, attributed to each.

United Nations & intergovernmental

Treaty bodies and international scientific authorities.

Scientific & industry authorities we cite

Specialist scientific and standards authorities whose determinations we cite and attribute.

Sources we are evaluating

Established chemical-safety and toxicology data sources we do not yet ingest — each is a candidate we verify for machine access and licence before use.
